Practicalities for Uganda summer school 2025

Practicalities

Costs:

The currency used in Uganda is the Ugandan Shilling. Money can be converted at the airport in Uganda, as well as at money exchange centres. We recommend that students carry at least a small amount of Ugandan Shillings in cash to spend as wanted.

Keep in mind the type of credit/debit card you use, as some cards are not commonly accepted outside the Netherlands (Such as Maestro cards). Visa cards and Mastercards and commonly accepted globally.

Cost breakdown

The price for the school is 150 Euro, which includes the VISA costs of approximately 50 dollar (we will help you obtaining your visa via Kampala International University). The other items that are included in the price include the activities that we will do in Uganda, accommodation, food, and travel.

In addition to the 150 euro, you will have to pay for your flight ticket, which we recommend to do ASAP – since prices will probably increase over time.

  • Costs to think about yourself include vaccination before traveling and any small thing/food you wish to buy there.

Vaccines

Have a look at this website for guidelines for vaccines: https://vaccinatiepunt.nl/vaccinaties-uganda/

  • Certain vaccines are compulsory to travel to Uganda and to apply for a visa

This is a centre you can get vaccinated at in Utrecht: stadskliniek-vaccinaties

  • Make sure to book a date in advance at your chosen centre. There may be a waitlist depending on the centre.

Visa

To travel to Uganda, your passport must be valid for 6 months beyond the date you arrive.

Most countries’ passports need a visa to enter Uganda. visit-uganda.org

We will support students through the visa process.
