Bridging Continents: African-European Youth Collaborating for Diverse and Digital Futures

Agenda

8 Jun 2025 - 8 Jul 2025

Apply Now! Uganda Summer School 2025

APPLICATION PROCESS

Why should you participate?

This is more than just an academic experience, it’s an opportunity to engage with global challenges at a local level. Students from Utrecht University and University College Utrecht are encouraged to apply, as the school is designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and intercultural dialogue. You’ll work alongside peers from Uganda and Europe, refugee youth, community leaders, and international scholars to co-create knowledge that addresses a pressing “wicked challenge” of our time: the intersection of forced migration, digital inequality, and health misinformation. Together, you will work to understand and address the complex challenges of digital (il)literacy and (health) misinformation among diverse groups of Dutch and Ugandan youth, including those living in urban and rural areas and in refugee camps.

By participating, you will gain:

  • Firsthand insight into community-led approaches to digital education and health literacy.
  • Build meaningful connections with youth and scholars across continents.
  • Strengthen your capacity for ethical, engaged, and globally-informed research and practice.
  • Contribute to a real-world outcome—a podcast that amplifies refugee voices and combats harmful disinformation.
  • Achieve a certificate of participation for your contribution and hard work.

Who should apply?

This winter school is ideal for students passionate about social justice, digital inclusion, global health, migration, and education, and for anyone who believes that learning should have a purpose beyond the classroom.

Requirements:

  • Must be a student currently enrolled at Utrecht University or University College Utrecht.
  • Must write a motivation letter
  • Take a look at the practicalities for this summer school

Motivation letter

We ask all students to submit a motivation letter as part of the application. This should be no longer than one page and should address the following:

  • Why you are interested in attending this summer school
  • What relevant skills or experiences you bring
  • How your approach to learning and collaboration aligns with the school’s themes and ways of working.

Alternatively, you may choose to submit a short video or audio recording that covers these same points. You can also submit photos or graphics in your motivation to better express yourself.
